Service in the Monchique bar poor for first 2 days. No pool bar service for 3 days Very poor TV channels in room for a clientele which is largely English speaking No Sky channels in Henry Cotton bar so could not watch PGA championship Unbelievable for a golf resort However Pool was excellent as was breakfast buffet For all that still a very good 🏨

Pool fabulous as ever. Breakfast excellent. Service elsewhere poor very short of staff NO NO sky for the golf in an international golf resort. Very very poor Visited many times over nearly 40 years. Hope for sky access with the new company owners. Pkeade

Excellent stay in a classic hotel, golf course was playing well given the volume of traffic, greens were in fantastic condition. Rooms were very comfy and overall a great stay. Shout out in particular to Asad for his warmth and excellent customer service!

Hotel em más condições de conservação. A precisar de obras urgentes. Camas e almofadas desconfortáveis e velhas. Piscina cheia de ervas. Comida do almoço e jantar muito má. Só o pequeno almoço foi bom. Não percebo como está classificado como 5 estrelas.

We spent 4 days at the Penina at the end of April 2025 to kickstart the summer and play golf. This was our first visit to Penina, where we played several rounds at the Sir Henry Cotton Championship golf course, which was very nice and in good condition. From what I understand, the Penina is almost like an old aristocrat for golfers on the Algarve. The staff was lovely, very service-minded, and proud of their hotel. However, it should be noted that the hotel itself is tired. It appears to be a 5-star resort, but the flair has faded, and the rooms are in dire need of a serious upgrade to earn the 5-star rating. I would probably rate it more like a 3-star hotel with a 5-star golf course. So, if you are there for the golf experience, you will likely have an enjoyable stay with decent value for money if you go for a golf package. However, if you are there for the 5-star hotel experience, there are many better options.
